About the club

Solent Kestrels Basketball Club is one of the leading boy’s basketball programmes in the country. The programme was originally started in 1996 by Jimmie Guymon (former NBA player) and his wife Bev to provide basketball development opportunities for their son Matt (now playing college ball in the USA) and other talented local boys. The club now brings in players from a large area of the South of England including Southampton , Portsmouth , Salisbury ,Swindon and Basingstoke.

We aim to train players to the highest level to enable them to achieve success in basketball and in life through the discipline and hard work required to be as good as they can be. We have sent over 20 players to High School and College in the USA to pursue their basketball careers and are one of the most respected programmes in England. This record of success culminated this year with Joel Freeland, a young boy who was trained and mentored by Jimmie and the programme and after a year at Gran Canaria was a first round NBA draft pick to the Portland Trailblazers.

The programme took 60 boys to New York to compete in a tournament in April 2006 and is committed to providing opportunities to tour abroad for all National League players.
