Solent Kestrels in to top spot in NBL Division 1 with a composed 79–61 victory over London Elite on Saturday evening at the Solent Sports Complex, continuing their strong start to 2026 while leaving the visitors still searching for a first league win. The Kestrels set the tone early and never relinquished control, led by a standout all-round performance from Ethan Round, who poured in 25 points on efficient shooting while also adding seven rebounds and five assists. Strong contributions across the rotation underlined a disciplined team display as Solent showed their depth.

The opening quarter laid the foundation for the win as Solent burst out of the blocks with real intent at both ends of the floor. Quick ball movement and aggressive defence helped the Kestrels race into an early double-digit lead, with Round knocking down shots from the perimeter and attacking closeouts confidently. London Elite struggled to settle offensively, shooting poorly under pressure and turning the ball over as Solent pushed the pace. By the end of the first ten minutes, the hosts had built a commanding 28–13 advantage.

The second quarter saw London Elite respond with greater physicality and improved execution, briefly threatening to halt Solent’s momentum. The visitors found some rhythm through Tega Agbede, who attacked the lane effectively, but the Kestrels were able to absorb the push. Gregoire Durand and Ash Briggs provided valuable energy minutes, helping maintain control of the glass and keep the scoreboard ticking over. Solent edged the period 22–18 to head into half-time with a comfortable 50–31 lead.

After the break, London Elite produced their best spell of the game, winning the third quarter 18–14 as they looked to chip away at the deficit. Solent’s offence briefly stalled, with shots not falling as freely as in the first half, but their defensive structure remained intact. Key rebounds and second-chance efforts prevented London from building sustained momentum, ensuring the Kestrels still held a 64–49 cushion heading into the final period.

The fourth quarter was managed with maturity as Solent reasserted control and closed the game out professionally. Timely baskets from the supporting cast steadied the ship, while defensive pressure forced London into tough looks down the stretch. With the gap consistently hovering around 15 to 20 points, the outcome was never in doubt. Solent saw out the contest 15–12 in the final quarter to secure another convincing home win and underline their status as the team to beat in Division 1.

Kestrels take a break from league play this coming weekend with no fixture on the schedule and will return to action in the National Cup Final on Sunday 25th Janaury 2026 at the University of Worcester Arena, where they'll take on Manchester Magic.
